Minimum Job Requirements:

  • 2 year’s experience and passion working with young children

Position Overview:

The Lead Teacher will guide a Lower Elementary Montessori classroom of up to 30 students, creating and maintaining an authentic Montessori learning environment in alignment with AMI principles. The role includes lesson planning, classroom leadership, student assessment, and collaboration with families and colleagues to support each child’s academic, social, and emotional development.

Requirements:

  • AMI Montessori Elementary certification

Maria Montessori School, an AMI Recognized school, is located in the beautiful Leaside neighbourhood of Midtown Toronto, Ontario. We have been providing high-fidelity Montessori education to children aged 18 months to 12 years for 50 years. Maria Montessori School is looking for a Montessori Elementary Guide who has the knowledge and skills necessary to implement AMI Montessori principles to join our incredible team of professionals. The person we are looking for will not only have a deep, abiding interest in Montessori and child development (with a particular understanding of the second plane child, aged 6–12), but also have strong interpersonal skills, a love of learning, a reverence for the child, and be a team player who enjoys collaborating with colleagues.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing and delivering high-fidelity Montessori Elementary education in alignment with AMI principles
  • Preparing and maintaining a child-centred Elementary environment that fosters independence, inquiry, and responsibility
  • Supporting collaborative work, problem-solving, and joyful discovery within a mixed-age classroom community
  • Ensuring a safe and caring environment for students and their parents
  • Reporting and record keeping that ensures that the Principal and parents are kept abreast of the challenges, successes and competencies of each child
  • Having effective communication skills, and actively and positively interacting with parents in both formal and informal settings
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and administration to support a cohesive, thriving school community

Qualifications and requirements:

  • AMI Elementary 6–12 training
  • Experience in an AMI Elementary classroom is a strong asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search within past 6 months
